Ishizuka Sensei's December Seminar Cancelled

In an unfortunate turn of events, the highly anticipated seminar with Tesuji Ishizuka Sensei, the head of the Gyokko Ryu, has been called off. The news was shared by his student Kacem Zoughari via a heartfelt post on the 'Onmitsu Kage' Facebook page.

Official Statement from Kacem Zoughari

Zoughari's message reads:

"Dear members of the Bujinkan, Unfortunately, after a talk few hours ago with Ishizuka Sensei, I must announce that he decided to cancel the seminar. He is very disappointed because it was planned since the publication of his book. But since the surgery he received for his two eyes, his sight is not yet completely healed and his doctor said he needs at least a year of complete rest. As his disciple, I personally feel very very sad to cancel the seminar. It is my hope that everyone will be able to modify their travel plans accordingly. Once again, I deeply apologize on behalf of Ishizuka Sensei. Most sincerely, Kacem."

Health Concerns Prompt Cancellation

Ishizuka Sensei had scheduled a special two-day seminar at the Honbu Dojo in Noda for December 7th and 8th, 2024. Unfortunately, due to ongoing issues with his eyesight following surgery, the grandmaster has been advised by his doctors to take at least a year of complete rest to ensure proper healing. This health concern has regrettably led to the cancellation of the event.

A Rare Opportunity Lost

The seminar was set to be a rare and valuable opportunity for martial artists to train directly under one of the foremost masters in the world. Ishizuka Sensei's expertise and deep understanding of ninjutsu and the martial traditions of the Bujinkan are unparalleled.

Ishizuka Sensei's Accomplishments

  • Menkyo Kaiden: Ishizuka Sensei holds Menkyo Kaiden in the nine schools of the Bujinkan, indicating a complete transmission of knowledge and the highest level of mastery.
  • Sōkeship of Gyokko Ryū: In 2019, he was awarded the sōkeship of Gyokko Ryū by Masaaki Hatsumi, recognizing him as the head of this classical martial tradition.
  • National Honors: Ishizuka Sensei has also been honored by the Emperor of Japan with the 'Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays,' in recognition of his contributions and dedication to martial arts.

Future Prospects

At this time, there is no information on whether the seminar will be rescheduled. The martial arts community remains hopeful for Ishizuka Sensei’s full recovery and looks forward to future opportunities to learn from his vast experience and knowledge.

The cancellation of this event is a significant disappointment for many who had planned to attend, but the priority remains Ishizuka Sensei’s health and well-being. The community extends its best wishes for his recovery and eagerly awaits the possibility of rescheduled training sessions in the future.
