Highlights from Bujinkan Slovenia’s Coastal Training Camp

Weapons, Waves, and Warrior Bonds

The scenic coast of Slovenia served as the perfect backdrop for this year’s highly anticipated Bujinkan Ninpō Dōjō Slovenia Ninja Camp, which took place from August 30 to September 1, 2024. Under the expert guidance of Andrej Jasenc, head instructor and 15th Dan practitioner, the camp offered an intensive, weapon-focused training experience that left participants inspired and eager for more.

Founded in 1995, Bujinkan Ninpō Dōjō Slovenia has long been dedicated to preserving and teaching the martial arts of the Bujinkan. This year’s camp continued that tradition with a distinct emphasis on weaponry. Participants were immersed in the study of Fukiya-jutsu (blowgun), Hōjō-jutsu (rope techniques), Shukō-jutsu (hand claws), Kusarigama-jutsu (sickle and chain), Tō-jutsu (swordsmanship), Sō-jutsu (spear techniques), and Kamayari-jutsu (sickle spear). Additionally, they practiced Sui-jutsu (warrior swimming methods), which was particularly fitting given the camp's seaside location. The mornings began with Meisō (meditation), Jūnan Undō (stretching), and Hichibuku Goshin-jutsu (therapeutic methods), ensuring a holistic approach to training that combined physical rigor with mental clarity.

"We have our summer camps every year, where we usually study silent movement, hiding, tracking and shelter building."

The camp saw around 50 dedicated practitioners from five different countries come together to share in this unique experience. Feedback from the attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the balance between rigorous training, the serene environment, and the camaraderie that developed over the weekend. Jasenc expressed his hope that attendees took away not only advanced martial techniques but an appreciation for building strong, positive relationships.

"I hope they will understand that it's not just the practice that matters, but socializing and having good relationships with other people."

As the camp came to a close, it was clear that this event had left a lasting impression on everyone involved. Plans are already underway for future workshops, including a special celebration next year to mark the 30th anniversary of Bujinkan Ninpō Dōjō Slovenia. With such a strong foundation and a leader as passionate as Andrej Jasenc, the future of the Dōjō looks as bright as ever. Stay tuned for what promises to be an even more exciting event in 2025!
